Robert J. Murphy, M.D.

Inducted: 2005

Born in Columbus and attended UA Schools graduating in 1940. Earned his undergraduate and medical degrees from The Ohio State University, served in WWII and while at Walter Reed Hospital met Phyllis Peterson, his wife of 50 years. Together they had four children, Vickie, Leslie, Link and Mark.

Practiced internal medicine in UA for 48 years. Team physician at Ohio State for 41 years and co-founder of the Department of Sports Medicine. Besk known for recommending unlimited use of water in treating heat illness in athletes. Medical director of First Community Village for over 40 years.

Life member of First Community Church, director of Vaud Villities for nearly 50 years and played the dual pianos with Lowell Riley, drummer in the "Spirit of 76," leading the UA parade for years. Past president of the UA Civic Association and chaired numerous UA School Levy Campaigns.

Dr. Bob intertwined his passions of medicine, sports, the arts, Ohio State, community and family in all his endeavors. He was always a positive thinker looking with optimism to the future.
